The vision of American Friends of Guinea (AFG) is to improve health care in Guinea and the quality of life of its people.

We believe that every Guinean deserves to live a healthy life.

Our goal is to ensure that all Guineans have access to quality public health care and educational programs that promote and preserve life.

In summer 2007, AFG assisted in medical efforts that helped save more than 6,000 Guineans by providing hydration and antibiotic treatments to people battling a deadly cholera epidemic.

In keeping with our mission, AFG has started a major project to deliver clean drinking water by installing wells in parts of the country where people are disproportionately affected by inadequate infrastructure.

Two-year-old Mahawa Sylla lives in the village of Condeya, about 100 miles north west of Conakry capital of Guinea. As she was learning to walk at 13 months, she fell into her mother's cooking pot of boiling water. When AFG found her at a local clinic, she was severely burned. Doctors and her parents feared she would not recover because of a shortage of medication and supplies at the clinic.
